The Retro Housewife’s Top 5 Beauty Products!

top5beauty

After years and years of trying what it seems like every makeup there is, I feel like I’ve finally settled on my top 5 makeup essentials.  When I’ve tried it all, trust me, I mean it.  I’ve tried things from the dollar store, to Avon and Mary Kay, to Chanel and Dior.  After years of trial and error, here you have it.  My top 5 beauty products!

1168958_fpx                                           Benefit They’re Real! Mascara  – it only comes in black

I was very fortunate that God blessed me with relatively long eye lashes, the only problem is that they’re blonde.  This requires many, many coats of mascara… that is until I came upon this little beauty.  Just a few brushes across my lashes and I have beautiful bombshell eyelashes!  It runs for about $20 at Ulta, Sephora, any any department store that carries Benefit cosmetics.

Sonia Kashuk Brow Definer Pencil in Taupe

I am naturally blonde and fair skinned, and if I don’t pencil in my eyebrows it looks as though I don’t have any at all!  This pencil goes on very smoothly, and looks very naturally.  It definitely doesn’t give that “drawn on” look like many eyebrow pencils can do.  Besides working wonderfully, it’s only $6 at Target!

Mac Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation

For many years I used a powder mineral foundation.  Unfortunately when I moved to Arizona I found that it didn’t work well because I ended up sweating it all off.  You would think I might have the same problem with this one, but not at all!  With very dry fair skin, I love how it moisturizes and protects me from the sun.  I use the shade NW20.  This foundation costs $35, but trust me, a little goes a long way so it lasts forever!

2251723Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

I have more eye-shadows than I can count.  One in every color, every shade, for every occasion.  In fact, I have an entire drawer full of them!  For everyday use however, there is one palette I always turn to.  The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette is fantastic.  All the colors are neutral and matte, and are just perfect for everyday use.  If you’re looking for something new for everyday use, I highly, highly recommend getting this!  It consists of 6 colors, and costs $29.  You can find it at Ulta, Sephora, or any other stores that carry Urban Decay.

Every retro or modern woman needs a wonderful red lipstick.  One of the things I love so much about Mac is that they allow you to try on as many shades as you like until you find the perfect one.  Because my skin is so fair, my hair is blonde, and I have green eyes, I try to find something a little darker but still a nice, rich red.  I found exactly what I was looking for in Mac Viva Glam 1 in matte.  It gives me a lovely red color without being too bright or “in your face”.  I don’t want my lipstick to be the first thing people notice about me.

So there you have it, my top 5 beauty products!  I hope you enjoy and maybe will go out and try a few!
